The Chinese internet giant Tencent Cloud Services division, Tencent Cloud, has introduced a new virtual human platform that enables users to generate deepfakes of a person using three-minute footage and 100 words of audio material.

The deepfake generator offered by Tencent Cloud creates fictitious films of people using Tencent’s in-house AI technology. Deepfake films are frequently used by con artists to fool investors by posing as well-known people. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, issued a warning in 2022 about the growing problem of deepfakes using his likeness to advertise cryptocurrencies scam. Tencent Cloud’s service, according to local reports Jiemian, may evaluate and develop itself on 100 speech samples and three-minute films to create a persuasive deepfake video in less than 24 hours. The cost of the deepfake production service is approximately $145 or 1k yuan.
The Register said that Tencent had acknowledged the breakthrough and noted that the experience could produce deepfakes in both English and Chinese. Five different forms of digital human construction are available: 2D actual person, 2D cartoon, 3D realistic, and 3D partially realistic. Tencent plans to utilize the platform to present live-telecasted infomercials targeted at the Chinese market. According to Jiemian’s analysis, deepfakes may also be used to pose as “lawyers, doctors, or people from any other profession.”
