NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The IRS has declared an extension for the tax deadline for Tennessee residents affected by the recent severe weather events.
The entire state of Tennessee is currently designated as a disaster zone due to straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred on April 2 of this month.
The IRS is automatically granting an extension until November 3 for anyone whose address on record is located within Tennessee’s 95 counties.
According to the IRS, this extended deadline will apply to:
- Individual income tax returns and payments that are typically due on April 15, 2025.
- Contributions to IRAs and health savings accounts for eligible taxpayers for the year 2024.
- Quarterly estimated tax payments that are usually due on April 15, June 16, and September 15, 2025.
- Quarterly payroll and excise tax returns that are typically due on April 30, July 31, and October 31, 2025.
- Corporation and fiduciary returns and payments reflecting a calendar year, generally due on April 15, 2025.
- Returns for tax-exempt organizations on a calendar year, generally due on May 15, 2025.
Additionally, penalties for not submitting payroll and excise tax deposits that are due on or after April 2, 2025, and before April 17, 2025, will be waived if the deposits are made by April 17, 2025.
