Next week, Apple will announce its quarterly earnings, offering an official insight into the sales of the iPhone 16 during the holiday period. In the meantime, a recent report sheds light on what we can anticipate regarding the sales distribution of various iPhone 16 models.
CIRP Report Highlights Growing and Declining iPhone 16 Models
Today, CIRP released a new report that details the iPhone sales from the latest holiday quarter.
While the report does not disclose specific sales figures, it emphasizes the composition of different models in Apple’s range following the launch of the iPhone 16.
As expected, the iPhone 16 Pro Max emerged as the most sought-after model, but there is an intriguing narrative around the sales trajectories of two particular devices.
Notably, the model that experienced the greatest increase in sales was the standard iPhone 16:
In the latest quarter, the standard iPhone 16 captured 21% of sales, making it the second most popular model. This marks a significant rise from the 15% share held by the iPhone 15 in the December 2023 quarter, signaling a return to previous levels for base models.
The premium iPhone 16 Pro Max accounted for 23% of sales, which is lower than the 26% market share that last year’s 15 Pro Max achieved in the December 2023 quarter.

Summary of iPhone 16 Sales Mix
This year, Apple made the standard iPhone 16 particularly appealing, so its growth is not unexpected. Observing the chart, it appears that this growth may have come at the expense of the base iPhone 15, which performed worse than the iPhone 14 in 2023.
Although the Pro Max did not experience a dramatic drop that caused it to lose its leading position, CIRP notes that the combined sales of both the Pro Max and Pro editions accounted for the lowest overall percentage of total iPhone sales in the past five December quarters.
