As we mentioned last week, Threads is now rolling out Custom Feeds on a global scale based on various topics. Meta appears to be responsive to user feedback, having committed to implementing an option that allows users to select their preferred default feed.
Threads will allow selection of default feed
This update was shared by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Threads post. He indicated that the platform is currently “testing” a feature that enables users to set any feed as their default. This includes options between the For You feed, Following, and even a custom feed. Consequently, users will be able to decide which feed appears first upon opening Threads.
“Testing the option to choose any feed — whether it’s For You, Following, or a custom one — as your default. We’re also making this more apparent in the app. I’m curious to see how and whether people utilize this,” Zuckerberg commented.
At the moment, the Threads app defaults to the For You feed, featuring suggested content driven by algorithms. Recently, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri disclosed that Meta would adjust Threads’ algorithms to prioritize posts from the accounts a user follows, responding to a long-standing request from the Threads community.
Users can swipe down on the Threads home screen to reach the Following feed, which, true to its name, displays posts solely from accounts they follow. This is similarly the case for Custom Feeds, although the app reverts to the For You feed each time it is closed and reopened.
Many users have observed that Meta has significantly accelerated the rollout of new features for Threads lately. Although no official statement has been made, some speculate that this may be in response to the swift rise of Bluesky in recent months. While Threads continues to boast a larger user base, Bluesky has rapidly gained over 13 million users in just one year.
Details regarding which users will first access the new features or the timeline for broader availability remain unclear. Regardless, ensure that you have the latest version of the app installed to gain access to the new functionalities. The Threads app can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
