The upcoming iPhone SE generation from Apple is anticipated to launch as soon as next week. This device is said to adopt the design aesthetics of the iPhone 14, incorporating USB-C, an A18 chip with enhanced Apple Intelligence, and more. While these headline features may be familiar, there are other significant rumors that you might have missed, which we will be discussing today.
Possible New Name?
One intriguing rumor surrounding the iPhone SE 4 is the potential for a new name: iPhone 16E.
Renaming the iPhone SE to align with the rest of Apple’s naming structure could enhance clarity. Additionally, this change could allow Apple to launch the device at a slightly elevated price compared to previous iPhone SE models.
This particular rumor stems from a couple of less-than-reliable sources, so it’s wise to take it with caution, but it’s still worth considering.
48MP Camera
According to exclusive reports from DMN, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature a 48MP main camera sensor, identical to the one found in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
This advancement translates to improved photo quality compared to the iPhone 14 and earlier generations of the SE, which is certainly a positive development.
Moreover, this upgrade implies the availability of 2x optical zoom.
Since Apple debuted 48MP sensors with the iPhone 14 Pro, they have provided a feature that allows users to utilize the central 12MP of the frame, enabling what is marketed as an “optical quality” shot. Whether you consider this to qualify as true optical quality is subjective, but this functionality is likely to be included in the iPhone SE 4.
Apple’s First Modem
In 2019, Apple purchased Intel’s modem division. Since then, they’ve been working on developing in-house modems to move away from their reliance on Qualcomm.
The new iPhone SE is expected to showcase these new modems.
While this modem may not be cutting-edge, it’s set to appear in the iPhone SE lineup, although it likely won’t be featured in the iPhone 17 series. Nevertheless, it marks an exciting step for Apple, representing a significant cost reduction on a per-unit basis. This effort showcases Apple’s ambition for deeper vertical integration, a pursuit that commenced with the shift to Apple Silicon on Macs in 2020.
