Early on Thursday, Tommy Lee startled the world by posting a full-frontal, inappropriate work photo of himself on social media.
The Motley Crue drummer posted the photograph on his official Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook sites, but the latter two have now taken it down. Lee is entirely nude in the picture that ends at his face and appears to be relaxing in a restroom. According to the Independent, Tommy Lee captioned the photo, “Ooooopppss,” with his penis fully exposed.
Tommy Lee’s Upload Has Sparked Controversy
By about 8 AM ET on Thursday, the image was deleted from Instagram. However, it had been up earlier for a number of hours. When Lee’s band was at its peak in the 1980s, he was well-known for having affairs with groupies, pushing drugs hard, and even eating tiny light bulbs for fun.
He made news in June of last year when he performed again despite having damaged ribs. It happened during the Atlanta leg of the band’s much-awaited kick-off reunion tour. Even though he only managed to last for five songs, he went above what his doctor had prescribed.
The magazine speculated that there could be a double standard when it questioned why Tommy Lee had a “free pass” for publishing it because of how long it took for it to be removed from Facebook and Instagram. In the meanwhile, according to Cosmo’s Jennifer Savin, “there is been a continuous trickle of experiences shared by women, especially women who are plus-size or just not white, of having their nude photographs immediately erased.”
With Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett, Motley Crue is now on their summer “Stadium Tour” across the United States. At the first performance in June, Lee disclosed that he had broken his ribs and would perform as much as possible with a fill-in covering for him. But later that month, he performed his first complete performance.
