Apple has rolled out a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 2, marking the first update since the introduction of advanced hearing health features in iOS 18.1. AirPods 4 have also received an update. Here are the specifics.
Update 11/12: Just a day later, Apple has extended the same firmware releases to developers as well.
The latest firmware is the first since the hearing health enhancements in iOS 18.1
The previous firmware version for AirPods Pro 2 was build 7B19.
This update came just ahead of the iOS 18.1 launch, which unveiled a trio of new hearing health functionalities:
- Hearing Aid
- Hearing Test
- Hearing Protection
Today, Apple has introduced build 7B21 for all models of AirPods Pro 2.
While the precise changes of this latest firmware update are not clear, it is expected to include enhancements and fixes addressing some of the new features from the previous build.
Likewise, AirPods 4 were recently updated to version 7B19, albeit without the hearing health features exclusive to Pro models.
Today, Apple has issued a new 7B20 build for AirPods 4 users.
For details on these updates, you can visit Apple’s AirPods firmware page. The updates are characterized as standard “Bug fixes and other improvements”.
As with all AirPods firmware updates, manual download initiation is not possible; instead, your AirPods will automatically update themselves in the coming days.
