The official Trezor X account began circulating malicious links that led to a fraudulent token presale and requested Bitcoin transfers to an unknown wallet address. Hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor has been posting ominous comments on its official X account regarding fictitious presale token sales, which are believed to result from a SIM-swap attack. On March 19, independent blockchain specialist ZachXBT alerted his 528,000 followers on X about the purported attack. A Bitcoin security company called Scam Sniffer detected the unusual activity ten minutes later.
Trezor Zapper Account Had Over $8,100 Taken By Hacker
A fake Trezor presale token called “$TRZR” was promoted in many postings from legitimate websites on the Solana networks. The adverts contained links that led viewers to websites that depleted their wallets and requested that they send money to a Solana wallet address. ZachXBT also said that the hacker had stolen about $8,100 from Trezor’s Zapper account.
In a follow-up remark, he said, “Imagine hacking the Trezor account only to steal $8.1K (includes 25% drainer fee).” The messages also mentioned Slerf, a brand-new meme coin on Solana that was probably meant to encourage further interaction. But, a lot of the posts were taken down shortly after they were published. Crypto analyst and X user John Holmquist called their most recent event a big loss and criticized the hard wallet maker for ostensibly not utilizing two-factor authentication (2FA) to safeguard its X account. He emphasized, “Please take account security more seriously.”
