During WWDC 2024 in June, Apple previewed new screensavers for Apple TV with tvOS 18, highlighting screensavers inspired by top Apple TV+ movies and series. Now, with the latest beta of tvOS 18.2, Apple is rolling out one of these awaited screensavers featuring Snoopy.
Apple TV introduces new Snoopy screensaver
As reported by Aaron Zollo and confirmed by DMN, the tvOS 18.2 beta 3—which is now accessible to developers—includes a new Snoopy screensaver for Apple TV.
For those who aren’t aware, Apple secured the rights to the Peanuts franchise back in 2018, shortly before the launch of Apple TV+, and has since released various new Snoopy titles.
The new screensaver showcases Snoopy and his friends in various scenes when the Apple TV remains inactive for a specific duration. This Snoopy screensaver joins the existing Photos & Slideshows and Portraits options, with the latter being introduced in tvOS 18.0. While Apple has also hinted at a screensaver for the Apple TV+ series “Foundation,” it is not yet available.
Besides the Snoopy screensaver, the tvOS 18.2 update brings support for multiple aspect ratios, enabling users to connect Apple TV to projectors and ultra-wide monitors.
Additional details on tvOS 18
One of the standout features of tvOS 18 is definitely InSight, which provides insights about actors, characters, and songs featured in Apple TV+ content. A simple tap displays all relevant information about the current scene in the Apple TV app.
This update also refines the Enhance Dialogue feature and automatically enables subtitles with the Mute button. Moreover, tvOS 18 revamps the Fitness+ app and allows users to designate a particular iPhone as a dedicated camera for FaceTime and other applications.
The tvOS 18.2 beta can currently be accessed by developers. This update, featuring the new Snoopy screensaver among other enhancements, is set to be released to the general public in December and is compatible with Apple TV models from 2015 onward.
