With the introduction of watchOS 11, Apple has made it possible for users to access Live Activities from their iPhones directly on their Apple Watch, allowing for real-time updates via the Smart Stack. Although watchOS can replicate Live Activities from the iPhone, Uber has significantly enhanced its Live Activity feature specifically for the Apple Watch.
Uber’s Live Activity on Apple Watch
According to feedback from multiple users, the Uber app’s Live Activity has been redesigned to feature a dedicated interface for the Apple Watch. Initially, during a ride, the Live Activity merely displayed the Uber logo alongside the estimated time of arrival (ETA), replicating what was presented in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island compact view.
Thanks to this update, Uber’s Live Activity on the Apple Watch now includes an icon featuring a circular progress bar, enabling users to monitor their ride in real-time. The ETA is presented more clearly, indicating “Dropoff at” instead of just showing the estimated time. Moreover, when the driver is en route, Uber’s Live Activity on the Apple Watch also displays an image of the car along with its license plate.
Though this is a minor enhancement, it significantly improves the experience of tracking an Uber ride for Apple Watch users, particularly since Uber phased out its Apple Watch app in 2022.
As mentioned earlier, Live Activities on the Apple Watch can be watched in the Smart Stack, which is accessible by rotating the Digital Crown upwards. However, whenever there’s a new status update, the system will automatically show you the Smart Stack with Live Activity prioritized at the top. Developers have the ability to create specific Live Activities for the Apple Watch even without a dedicated watchOS app.
If you utilize Uber, ensure that you have the most recent version of the app installed on your iPhone to take advantage of the new features. It’s important to note that watchOS 11 is compatible with Apple Watch Series 6 and newer models.
