On Wednesday, Uber unveiled exciting updates for its app, just in time for the holiday season. Among these changes is a fresh category named UberXXL, along with a new Home Screen widget designed for iPhone and iPad users.
The updated version of the Uber app for iOS introduces a Home Screen widget that allows users to request rides to recommended addresses with just a few taps.
“Your time is valuable, especially during the holiday hustle. Hence, we’re simplifying the ride-request process. From today, iPhone users can incorporate a new Uber widget on their Home Screen to request a ride in as few as two taps,” the company explained in a blog entry.
Besides the new widget, several other enhancements accompany this update. Notably, the UberXXL category allows users to order vehicles with larger luggage capacities, ideal for those with extra baggage or traveling in larger groups. UberXXL is set to roll out to routes serving more than 60 airports worldwide.
Additionally, Uber will provide travelers heading to airports the possibility of sharing a ride with another passenger going the same way, which can result in fares being lowered by up to 25% compared to the standard UberX fare. Users will also have the option to enter their flight details to receive suggestions for optimal departure times and to request an Uber.
The Uber app can be downloaded for free from the App Store and requires a device with iOS 16.2 or later. Be sure to update to the latest version of the app to access the new features.
