Pop superstar Troye Sivan collaborated with Charli XCX during the Coachella music festival on Saturday night, sporting a Conner Ives “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt, which supports trans rights. The proceeds from this shirt are directed toward the charity Trans Lifeline.
Significance
In recent times, President Donald Trump has worked to dismantle protections for transgender individuals, with trans rights becoming a focal point in his 2024 presidential campaign.
Shortly after his inauguration on January 20, Trump signed an executive order declaring it “the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female,” which targeted gender-affirming care for transgender youth, prohibited trans individuals from serving in the military, and barred trans women from competing in women’s sports.

Key Information
The phrase “Protect the Dolls” is rooted in ’80s ballroom culture and signifies transgender women.
This T-shirt was first worn by British designer Conner Ives during his AW25 presentation at London Fashion Week and gained broader availability after a significant surge of support.
The T-shirt is currently available for pre-order at a retail price of $95.
In a message on Instagram regarding Trans Lifeline, Ives stated, “Resources like this are now more crucial than ever, given the hostility and oppression that the federal government has implemented against trans individuals in America.”
Sivan showcased the T-shirt at Coachella and was one of several guest performers who joined Charli XCX during her main stage set, which also featured Lorde and Billie Eilish.
“The One of Your Girls” singer shared a series of photos of the T-shirt with his 15.6 million Instagram followers, including images of himself wearing it and a moment with transgender supermodel Alex Consani.
Troye isn’t the only celebrity to wear this tee; actor Pedro Pascal was also seen in it while celebrating his 50th birthday.
Public Reaction
Conner Ives, fashion designer, in an Instagram post: “All proceeds generated from the sale of this T-shirt will go directly to Trans Lifeline, a U.S.-based, trans-led organization providing lifesaving services to those in need. The hotline connects trans individuals to a broader community, offering support and resources critical for survival and thriving.”
“I owe my success to the support I’ve received from the dolls, so this is the least I can do to express my gratitude.”
One user commented on X, formerly Twitter: “Troye wearing a shirt that says ‘Protect the Dolls.’ I’m in tears.”
Another user mentioned on X: “Protect the Dolls is iconic.”
