As February draws to a close, recipients of Social Security Disability Insurance who have yet to receive their payments can expect their checks to arrive this week. The date of your monthly payment is influenced by several factors, which we will discuss below.
The Social Security Administration provides monthly payments to individuals with disabilities that hinder or restrict their ability to work. There are others who may also qualify based on their circumstances and can apply for SSDI as well.

Payment schedule for SSDI recipients since May 1997 or earlier
If you commenced receiving SSDI before May 1997, your payments are typically issued on the third day of each month. However, this can change if the third falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, in March, SSDI recipients received their payments two days earlier, on the first day of the month.
For others, payment dates are based on birth dates
If you began receiving SSDI after May 1997, your payment date is determined by the day of the month you were born. Payments are generally distributed on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month, as follows:
Birthdate between | Social Security check date |
---|---|
1 and 10 of the month | Second Wednesday of the month |
11 and 20 of the month | Third Wednesday of the month |
21 and 31 of the month | Fourth Wednesday of the month |

Impact of the 2025 COLA on your payment
The 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) includes a 2.5% increase in monthly benefit payments, although the actual increase may vary based on multiple factors. Monthly income, the duration for which benefits have been received, and the type of benefits can all affect the final increase. Recipients should have received their COLA notification in December detailing their specific circumstances. This COLA adjustment could contribute an additional approximately $48 to the average benefit check.
