Upcoming Vision Pro Enhancements May Drive Significant Success in 2025

Vision Pro has earned the title of DMN’s Product of the Year, but Apple’s spatial computer still has a great deal to demonstrate as it enters its second year. Here are three significant upcoming enhancements that could pave the way for a breakout year in 2025 for Vision Pro.

Apple Intelligence (especially for Siri)

Apple’s failure to integrate AI into its flagship spatial computer in 2024 was disappointing, yet understandable as the company focused on its most popular devices: the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

However, Apple Intelligence is set to come to Vision Pro, probably in visionOS 3, with a major impact expected in one primary area: an enhanced Siri.

While many other AI enhancements will be welcome additions to visionOS, a more robust Siri is at the top of my priorities.

As a relatively new Vision Pro user, I have quickly realized the importance of Siri in spatial computing compared to other Apple platforms, with the exception of the HomePod.

Voice-first computing shows tremendous promise on Vision Pro, and Siri’s integration with ChatGPT, along with substantial updates anticipated in iOS 18.4, would significantly enhance the visionOS experience.

Strong Gaming Support

For years, Apple has been striving to demonstrate its commitment to gaming. While the iPhone has been a consistent success in gaming, Apple has also attempted to persuade users (and developers) to focus on gaming for the Mac, Apple TV, and more.

However, the Vision Pro launched with a lack of a gaming narrative. Apple Arcade offers a range of spatial games, and other titles are available on the App Store, but currently, there are no supported VR game controllers, and Apple does not seem to regard visionOS as a gaming platform.

Fortunately, it appears that PlayStation VR2 controllers will be supported soon, which hopefully marks just the beginning of Apple’s gaming initiatives.

In the new year, Apple must convey that gaming is a priority for Vision Pro. Otherwise, the best VR games may remain exclusive to rival platforms.

More Apple Immersive Video

Immersive Video stands out as one of the most impressive ‘killer app’-like features of the Vision Pro. The only drawback is that for now, the demand for content has far exceeded supply.

As 2024 wrapped up, Apple increased the frequency of Immersive Video releases, and this trend is expected to continue in 2025, given recent hints at ambitious content plans.

The variety of Immersive Video offerings in 2024 demonstrates Apple’s willingness to experiment within this new medium, showcasing significant potential for the future.

While I hope Vision Pro evolves into a genuine productivity tool, that remains uncertain. What’s clear is that Immersive Video could transform Vision Pro into a top-tier entertainment device.

Summary of Vision Pro’s Upcoming Enhancements

If Apple can successfully address the aforementioned areas, Vision Pro is poised to become significantly more appealing to a broader audience. Factors such as pricing, weight, and the app ecosystem are also crucial. However, the more Apple can do to establish visionOS as a legitimate computing platform with robust gaming and video experiences, the more promising Vision Pro’s future will be.
