Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has passed three bills that included stimulus checks, formerly known as Economic Impact Payments, sent to millions of Americans. The three payments totaled more than $3,000 for each eligible American. The most recent of those payments came in March 2022. Several verified readers have reached out to the team to ask if Americans are getting fourth stimulus checks in 2023.

For Americans to receive another stimulus check, they would have to pass legislation authorizing the payment and President Biden would need to sign it into law. But that is not going to happen. The previous stimulus checks were part of legislation that was passed by Congress and signed by the sitting president. Those who qualify for one of the original three stimulus payments but did not receive at least one can still claim them. You have three years to claim your stimulus payments, the IRS spokesperson said.

State ‘Stimulus Check’ In 2023- Which States Are Still Sending Payments

Residents in a handful of states could still receive a tax rebate check or other payment in 2023. The final federal stimulus check is out. However, for more recent economic woes facing Americans- most notably, high inflation- there’s been no such relief from the federal government. Fortunately, though, some states stepped in and filled the void with their own stimulus check payments in 2022. But you may not be aware that a handful of those state stimulus payments are still being in 2023.

The variety of state relief check programs and the complexity of the different programs have made it challenging for the IRS to provide clarity to taxpayers before now.  In February the IRS announced new guidance on most of the special state payments.
