The founders of Webaverse- the game engine designed on the Web3 metaverse- have recently revealed that they had been hacked for $4 million after they met with a bunch of scammers who had posed as investors. According to Ahad Shams, the co-founder of this game engine, one of the most bizarre aspects of this story was that the crypto had been seemingly stolen from one of the newly set up Trust Wallet.

Also, it was important to note that the hack had taken place during this meeting at some point. He went on to claim that the thieves could not have had access to the private key, nor had he been connected to any public WiFi network during this period of time.

Webaverse Co-Founder Talks About Scammer Posing As An Investor

Despite that, the thieves were able to gain access while they kept taking a photo of the balance of the Webaverse wallet- as believed by Shams. This letter was shared on the 7th of February on Twitter, which contained the statements from both the co-founder, as well as the company, as they explained that they had been meeting with a man named “Mr. Safra” on the 26th of November after they had several weeks of immersive discussions about potential funding. Shams explained that they had connected with this ‘investor’ over video calls and email, and he explained that he wanted to invest in companies that delved into Web3.

The scammer of Webaverse had also posited that he had been previously scammed by people who worked in crypto, which is why he collected the IDs of the co-founders in order to conduct KYC on it. After that, he also stipulated as a requirement that the founders would have to go to Rome to meet him as it was quite important to meet in reality- so that they could get comfortable with who they were doing business with.
