Dolly Parton has always been an advocate for emerging stars, willing to step outside her comfort zone to collaborate on new songs, but she remains steadfast in her beliefs.
So, when pop artist Sabrina Carpenter reached out to invite the country legend to join her on the hit song “Please Please Please,” Parton laid down a crucial condition the younger artist had to accept.
“I told her, I said, ‘Now, I don’t cuss,'” the 79-year-old star mentioned in a recent interview with Knox News. “‘I don’t make fun of Jesus. I don’t speak ill of God. I don’t use foul language on camera, but I’m known to if I get mad enough.’
“She can get a bit sassy now and then,” Parton adds regarding Carpenter.
She’s not mistaken— the icon was set to lend her voice to a popular song that culminates in a well-known expletive. Carpenter’s followers noticed she had gracefully altered that explicit line.
In her initial solo rendition, she sings:
“Please, please, please don’t prove I’m right / And please, please, please / Don’t bring me to tears when I just did my makeup so nice / Heartbreak is one thing, my ego’s another / I beg you, don’t embarrass me, m—-rf—-r, oh / Please, please, please.”
In the collaborative version alongside Parton, they replace “m—-rf—-r” with “like the others.” Anyone unfamiliar with the original track wouldn’t even realize the difference.
Despite the occasional colorful language, Parton finds Carpenter to be “so sweet.”

The country music icon recently made her first public appearance since the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.
She visited her own Dollywood theme park, where she greeted fans from a horse-drawn carriage, including young children who came out for the 2025 season opening just to see her.
Carl Dean passed away on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82.
