There have been ongoing speculations regarding Apple’s collaboration with various AI chatbot companies to enhance Apple Intelligence functionalities. Currently, Apple has teamed up with OpenAI to incorporate ChatGPT into iOS, and this feature is already available in the iOS 18.2 beta, set for a release in December.
So far, there have been no announcements concerning other potential integrations, such as Google’s Gemini or Anthropic’s Claude, although Bloomberg previously indicated that they would be forthcoming. Craig Federighi, Apple’s software executive, mentioned in a June interview his interest in integrating Gemini within Apple Intelligence.
Recently, Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter provided insights into Apple’s potential schedule:
Further enhancements may include an integration with Google Gemini. However, it’s likely that Apple will allow OpenAI a significant period of exclusivity, particularly since it isn’t directly paying for the technology. Therefore, I wouldn’t anticipate seeing the Gemini chatbot on iOS until next year.
According to Gurman, it seems we probably won’t witness the integration of Google Gemini until next year, but it’s still uncertain whether that aligns with an early spring release (like iOS 18.4) or later during the iOS 19 development cycle.
In any case, those expecting to see Gemini integration this year may be disappointed.
