The holiday season is here, and for many Brits, that means cracking open a festive tub of Celebrations. These iconic red tubs, filled with miniature chocolate treats, are a Christmas staple. But for some, they’ll never quite feel the same again.

The End of a Chocolate Era

When Celebrations launched in 1997, the Galaxy Truffle quickly became a fan favorite. Its velvety chocolate center and firm outer shell made it the undisputed star of the selection. However, tragedy struck in 2011 when Mars Confectionery removed the truffle, replacing it with Twix. For many, this marked the beginning of an ongoing heartbreak.

Despite petitions and pleas from fans to bring back the beloved truffle, Mars stood firm. “We replaced Galaxy Truffles with Twix in 2011, and it’s been a hit,” said Mars Wrigley’s Michelle Frost in 2022. While Twix might satisfy some, it’s a poor substitute for the indulgent magic of the truffle.

In 2019, Mars briefly reintroduced Galaxy Truffles as standalone gift boxes, a move hailed as “exciting” but ultimately short-lived. Even these boxes vanished from shelves, leaving fans longing for the golden days of festive chocolates.

As Brits dig into their Celebrations tubs this Christmas, the absence of Galaxy Truffles serves as a bittersweet reminder of what once was. Gone but never forgotten, the iconic treat remains a cherished part of holiday nostalgia.
