Yesterday, we shared details about the introduction of the Grok 3 chatbot, which is exclusively available to those with an X Premium+ subscription. Initially priced at $22/month, this fee has now surged to $50/month—yet X appears to be a bit unclear regarding its own pricing strategy…
Elon Musk, the owner of X, proclaims Grok 3 as the “smartest AI on Earth,” amid intensifying competition. OpenAI is on the verge of releasing its most advanced model, GPT-4.5m, within the coming weeks.
X Premium+ subscription skyrockets
To utilize the newest Grok model, users must possess an X Premium+ subscription, and Musk seems to believe that subscribers are willing to pay significantly more. TechCrunch highlighted this sudden price increase.
Shortly following the release of Grok 3 by Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, X has drastically raised the price for its premium subscription plan, charging nearly $50 per month for access to the latest AI model […]
This marks the second price increase for the Premium+ plan in just a few months. In December, the company raised the monthly cost from $16 to $22. If we consider any of the presented prices, the new cost represents more than double what Premium+ subscribers previously paid.
Even so, subscribers will not gain access to all of Grok 3’s features—some will require a separate SuperGrok plan.
Confusion surrounding pricing
However, Ivan Mehta from the site points out that X appears to be uncertain about its own pricing.
When attempting to register for the Premium+ plan, it was shown that the monthly rate would be $39.83 ($477.95 annually), but the final checkout page indicated a yearly charge of $395.
Additionally, while X’s support page lists a monthly subscription fee of $50, the signup page displays a price of $48.40 per month, while the checkout page asks for $40 monthly.
So, while you’ll definitely be paying more, the exact increase seems to be a gamble. Perhaps the company ought to consult a savvy AI to clarify the situation.
