As 2024 draws to a close, Apple Books is gearing up to highlight the year in publishing. The beloved ‘Year in Review’ feature from last year returns today for Books users. You’ll also discover curated lists in the Books app featuring the best books and audiobooks of 2024, notable author debuts, and more.
Year in Review makes its return for a second year
While Apple Books may not have the same extensive user base as Amazon’s Kindle and Audible, I have always appreciated the app’s user-friendly interface and its rich editorial offerings.
The introduction of the Year in Review feature last year was an exciting addition, which I found more effectively executed compared to the popular ‘Apple Music Replay’ feature.
This year’s Year in Review feature is accessible from the Home tab of the Books app, providing a wealth of intriguing insights into your reading habits over the year, including:
- the total number of books you’ve read
- overall reading time
- the longest book and audiobook
- your most read genre and author
- statistics on your reading goals
- and more
Editorial lists showcase the best in publishing
Additionally, the Books editorial team has released several year-end lists today:
Both the best book and audiobook lists feature 20 titles each, showcasing a mix of similarities and distinct selections. Featured titles common to both lists include Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo, Percival Everett’s James, Kristin Hannah’s The Women, among others.
A ‘Best Debuts of 2024’ list is also available within the app, found in the Book Store tab, highlighting 10 debut works from new authors handpicked by Apple’s editorial team.
Lastly, check out the top-selling books and audiobooks of 2024, available in both Fiction and Nonfiction categories.
Apple’s media teams have been hard at work compiling their top picks for the end of the year, similar initiatives have also been observed from Apple Podcasts and Apple Music recently.
In conjunction with the launch of the Year in Review for Books users, Apple Music has introduced its annual Music Replay recap as well.
